Ride Big

I designed, co-developed and maintained the site www.ridebig.com for Chris Winter, owner of Big Mountain Bike Adventures, for many years. Since 2001 Big Mountain Bike Adventures has provided world-class mountain bike adventures with guided single track tours and trips around the globe.

Working with Chris is always a real pleasure. So I was truly excited when he asked me to redesign his website back in 2010. At the time, a bold red menu bar and yellow sub-menus had become staples of the Big Mountain brand. So to preserve the culture of the original site, we decided to work it into the new designs, but re-energize it.

As a strategy, we wanted to illustrate the thrill and excitement of traveling and riding the worlds best trails. So we came up with the idea of creating artifacts of the adventure as visuals. Experiencial things like getting mud on your clothes. And mementos like photographs or post-cards, maps, and buttons. The final result was a dramatic textural adventure with a lot of depth.
